Position Description: Junior Interior Designer, Full- Time- Permanent

The successful candidate will work closely with our clients, vendors and the senior staff.   They will be involved in all aspects of projects and therefore should be an excellent generalist in all areas of design and construction processes.  This will require involvement in every aspect of design including the ability to assist in the development and preparation of conceptual solutions, prepare working drawings, assist in material selections, and assist in the

implementation of the project. ABA is a multi-disciplinary office environment and strongly encourages versatility, flexibility and collaboration in our approach to creating successful spaces for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Gather planning information and analyze the clients’ needs and goals
  • Assist in the design development through planning, sketching and rendering with input from the Principal & Senior Designer
  • Acquire and coordinate samples
  • Coordinate with outside project consultants and vendors
  • Develop and coordinate a complete drawing package
  • Assist in the Construction Administration process
  • Attend site meetings, prepare site reviews and reports, review shop drawings and submittals
  • Provide back-up assistance to other members of the Interior Design group as well as the Architecture group
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading and designing a variety of retail, hospitality, multi-storey residential and commercial projects
  • Bachelor’s Degree or other form of recognized Interior Design program
  • Program must be through a CIDA (Council for Interior Designers of Ontario) accredited school
  • Eligibility, or ability to register with ARIDO
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, standard construction practices, building structure, systems and operations.
  • Computer skills in AutoCAD 2010-2017, Microsoft Office, Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch up and/or hand rendering.

Intern Architect: Full- Time- Permanent

The Intern Architect is a role focused on preparing architectural designs and documents for a wide variety of building types. The Intern Architect must deal with a number of projects at any given time. As each project is unique, the Intern Architect must possess strong organizational skills to deal with differing scopes and schedules at the same time. The responsibilities of the Intern Architect will include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Client to establish terms of reference, initiate programmatic and schematic design
  • Work with Site planners to determine all project site plan related constraints
  • Development of conceptual architectural plans and diagrams via commencement of the project design brief template
  • Responsible for the presentation graphics for presentations, 3D renderings, sketches etc
  • Prepare preliminary building layouts
  • Preparation of architectural working drawings ( either independently or as part of a larger team)
  • Review of construction drawings to ensure design integrity
  • Drawing and Specification coordination and /or preparation
  • Attend site meetings, prepare site reviews and reports, take minutes
  • Shop drawing review and circulation under supervision of the Project Architect or Project Manager
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with Clients, Contractors, Consultants, Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Site reviews

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture
  • Registered in good standing with the OAA as an Intern Architect
  • Minimum 4 years relevant work experience is required for this position
  • Good knowledge of Ontario Building Code, standard construction practices
  • Proficiency  in REVIT, AutoCAD 2010-2017, Microsoft Project, Word and Excel, Microsoft Outlook
