Architectural Draftsperson – Full-Time – Permanent
Reporting to the Architectural Production Manager, the Architectural Draftsperson must be able to work on a number of Projects at any given time. As each project is unique, the ideal candidate must possess good organizational skills to deal with the differing scopes and schedules, hand in-depth understanding of producing Architectural Working Drawings, and knowledge related to a wide variety of building types. The candidate must be proficient in REVIT to be considered. The responsibilities of the Architectural Draftsperson 1 will include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities
- Review Program requirements
- Review all Project constraints
- Prepare preliminary building layouts as directed
- Preparation of Architectural design drawings
- OBC review
- Coordination with all consultant drawings
- Preparation of Architectural working drawings (either independently or as part of a larger team)
- Tender Administration
- Shop drawing review and circulation
- Work under immediate supervision and rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job
- Report to the project lead throughout the Project
- Maintain project file to ABA Standards
- Liaise with Site planning and coordinates with Senior Staff on the file
- On occasion, attend site meetings, prepare site reviews and reports, take minutes
- Develop and maintain working relationships with Contractors and Consultants
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering or College Diploma in Construction and Engineering Technology
- Good knowledge of Ontario Building Code, and standard construction practices
- Computer skills in AutoCAD 2010-2017, REVIT 2017, Microsoft Word and Excel, Microsoft Outlook

Intermediate Interior Designer, Full-Time-Permanent
The Firm is seeking an Intermediate Interior Designer with a minimum 5 years’ experience leading and designing a variety of commercial, multi-storey residential, hospitality and retail projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with our clients and the senior staff. They will be involved in all aspects of projects and therefore should be an excellent generalist in all areas of design and construction processes. This will include client meetings, presentations, preparation of contract documents, selecting finishes, space planning, design development, production of drawing + specification packages, FF+E proposals, budget development, project coordination, contract administration, and business development. ABA is a multi-disciplinary office environment and strongly encourages versatility, flexibility and collaboration in our approach to creating successful spaces for our clients.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients to gather planning information and analyze the clients’ needs and goals
- Collaborate in the development of the design and the project with input from the Principal & or Senior Designer
- Assist with development of concept design through planning, sketching and rendering
- Acquire and coordinate samples
- Formulate design direction
- Review and implement design specifications, assist in any information the Spec writer may require
- Coordinate with outside project consultants
- Develop and coordinate a complete drawing package
- Direct the Construction Administration process
- Attend site meetings, prepare site reviews and reports
- Review shop drawings and submittals
- Coordinate and review all internal and external team members work
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading and designing a variety of retail, hospitality, multi-storey residential and commercial projects
- Bachelor’s Degree or other form of recognized interior Design program
- Eligibility, or ability to register with ARIDO
- Knowledge of Ontario building Code, standard construction practices, building structure, systems and operations
- Advanced computer skills in AutoCAD 2010-2017, Microsoft Office, Adobe CS, Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch up and or hand rendering

Project Architect, Full-Time/Permanent
The Firm is seeking a highly motivated and personable individual to assume the role of Project Architect.
The ideal candidate will be expected to lead a wide range of architectural projects including private sector development (residential, commercial, industrial, hospitality) and public sector projects although much of the work will be focused on Multi-Residential Apartment and Condominium Project over $20M in construction value. The Project Architect must have strong communication and organizational skills in acting as the liaison between the project team, authorities having jurisdiction, clients and senior staff. The Project Architect is a leadership role specializing in design and technical aspects for a project’s resolution from initial Client communication to Schematic and Design Development, Working Drawings, Tender, and Construction Phases through to a successful completion. The responsibilities of the Project Architect will include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Work with Clients to establish Terms of Reference, initiate Programmatic and Schematic Design.
- Development of conceptual architectural plans and diagrams via commencement of the Project Design Brief Template
- Primary coordinator of all communication between the client and project team insuring timely resolution of client concerns and management of business issues including contracts and additional services.
- Responsible for the day-to-day construction of multiple Projects whether directly or via an ABA Project Manager or Coordinator on the file.
- Independently coordinate work of a multidiscipline team through multiple phases of a project
- Fosters, manages and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Team
- Solicit Consultant Fee Proposals
- Review and manage project budgets
- Provide construction contract administration as needed
- Maintain accurate records of all communications and processes
- Client Retention
- Participate in Business development, seeking out new Clients and Opportunities for the Firm
Qualifications and Experience:
- License to practice Architecture in the Province of Ontario (OAA Designation)
- Minimum 7 years postgraduate design experience in a Canadian context;
- Good knowledge of Ontario Building Code, standard construction practices, fundamentals of site design
- Experience with High-Rise/Mixed Use Residential and Commercial
- Computer skills in AutoCAD 2017, Microsoft Office suite, Revit, SketchUp, MS
- LEED accreditation, or Green Associate preferred
