AWARDS Ontario Concrete Awards - 2023 Architectural Merit Award for Outstanding Work
The vision for Civic 66 is to ensure a high-quality contemporary residential development which contributes positively to the Weber Street East streetscape in downtown Kitchener. The project preserves and enlivens two existing historic buildings on the site, including the renovation of a two-storey heritage-designated home. In combination with the 11-storey apartment building, the site will bring 172 residential units to the core at what was a vacant lot for many years.
The project incorporates a shared courtyard and mid-block connection along Weber Street to Pearl Place and was positively received by the City of Kitchener through the Site Plan Approval process for its cohesive architectural and site design strategies, and commitment to enhance this downtown setting.
The building is comprised of a precast concrete structure and cladding, and incorporates green features such as geothermal heating and cooling, as well as solar PV on the rooftop. Amenities include an outdoor terrace, collaboration lounge, common room, and fitness center, each designed by ABA’s Interior Design Team.
