Waterloo Brewing Taphouse

LOCATION   Kitchener, ON

PROJECT TYPE   Interiors, Retail/Hospitality

COMPLETION DATE   2021

ABA’s Interior Design team was commissioned to design the brand new taphouse as well as an expansion to their existing retail store. The new taphouse features a stunning custom bar with 12 taps, seating for 98, a mezzanine and a 2 hectolitre small batch brewhouse. In summer of 2020, Waterloo Brewing Taphouse continued their expansion outdoors, with a 1000 sq ft patio that features comfortable lounge seating amongst corten steel fire tables and their very own patio grill, serving up fresh bbq food.

Located within their existing warehouse and brewing facility, the design boasts an industrial vibe met with warm wood and amber finishes. From the custom backlit beer

bottle wall, reclaimed brick from the original location, to the impressive wall murals completed by a Waterloo Brewing team member, the taphouse design connects the history of the original craft brewery to their present day home on Bingemans Centre Drive. Opening the existing facade by replacing the precast wall with 1500 sq ft of black curtain wall glazing brings in plenty of natural light as well as provides a physical connection through an operable glass wall that opens onto the patio. This leaves the space feeling bright and airy through the day. The newly glazed facade also reveals itself to passerby's as the sun sets, and becomes an intimate experience after dusk.
